procrastinators unite!
// January 4th, 2008 // creative
…tomorrow of course. I have a tendency to wait until Friday and cram 3 days worth of work into a day. The rest of my week gets sucked away by meetings and other “emergency” type situations and I allow it because I just keep thinking, “I’ve got friday.” I’ve realized that when I do that, my creativity and productivity is compromised. It becomes acceptable to skimp by on certain details that I would have never let fly on Monday. I wind up having a “gotta get it done” attitude which has to be one of the biggest enemies of excellence. I feel like I take the wind out of my own sails a lot of times, I may have a great idea but because I wait until the last minute I don’t give the idea the time that it deserves.

I’m beginning next week with plan and a purpose (that sounds like the procrastinators pledge doesn’t it) and I’m going to protect my ideas and creativity from being sucked away for any “good” reason.

I am so with you here. great quote!
I just had a meeting with some of the other Pastors declaring my need for some time structure in the office this year. Hopefully that will help with accomplishing that have to’s and still allow lots of time to be creative.
Yea, I’m looking at marking certain days as creative days and others as office/administration days and working hard to keep them somewhat separate. It’s just so easy to get bogged down.
Gentlemen… there needs to be a support group. “My name is Brad Bretz and I procrastinate until Friday.” Trey I totally know what you mean. I am in soooooo many meanings and thankfully I have a team of guys to get a lot of stuff done. However when I take on an a title package or graphic element I almost HAVE to wait until Friday but then it is rush, rush, rush. Great post and let’s meet on Tuesday nights for the support group. Inworship are you in?
Ideas: send some other people to the meetings for you – at night, really work through your video or graphic on a story board for faster execution on Friday – maybe take some stuff home – one time I adjusted my work hours for the day so I hit my after noon meetings and then worked until 9 or 10pm without interruption, I got to hang with family in morning. Just some thoughts.
I’m in
Brad – I used to manage a recording studio and the late work day was the only way I could get it done. I used to come in about 11 go home for dinner and an hour or two with the family and then come back till midnight. It did work for that time and I got see the family.
heck yea I’m in. You guys are so right, working late is the best way to get stuff done without interruptions. I find that I’m more creative at night also, well typically.
Brad – great idea on doing storyboards.
Thanks guys.
So how have you guys done with this.
I have failed miserably this week.
This week in particular I’ve done ok, but then again its a light week (so does that count?)
I think that’s what’s made mine rough. it’s been light, so I’ve been lazy.
Oh well, got a fun day today planned.
