simplify

A friend once told me that if I have clothes in my closet that I haven’t worn in 8 to 10 months then it was time to get rid of them.  Its a great plan that works out well if you actually do it, its takes me about 2 to 3 years to make the final decision that its time to move on from them and the cleanliness of my closet pays the price.

I just took a stroll through my Applications on my MBP and realized I have more apps that I don’t use than the ones I use. On top of that I’ve got over 10,000 pics in my iPhoto and as of right now 17gb of music in iTunes… I probably listen to about 7gb of that and most of those pics could be backed up on my external for safe keeping.

My point is, I’ve got to learn to say good-bye, to throw things away, to clean up my cluttered life.  I’m always feeling like my life is so unorganized that its hard to be productive, and its no wonder. I’m looking through my world and asking what adds to my life and what just clutters it up, and those things that clutter it up are being removed… old RSS feeds that I don’t read, bookmarks, emails, applications, and anything else that I don’t need.  If its not adding to my life or helping me in some way then I’ve got to say good-bye.  It’s time to simplify, to clean out and keep only the essentials that stir me or help me be more productive and creative.
